E. Gaylon McCollough, MD, FACS

Since entering practice, Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough has obtained international recognition as a surgeon and teacher.  Dr. McCollough was an Academic All-American center on Alabama Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s 1964 National Championship Team. That same year, McCollough was drafted by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.  Choosing a career in medicine, instead, he has distinguished himself as a pioneer in his profession.

 

Dr. McCollough is included in The Best Doctors in America®, listed in the National Registry of Who’s Who in medicine, and a member of professional associations too numerous to mention. 

 

Dr. McCollough is the recipient of multiple academic, professional, and civic awards and has been awarded the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Unites States Sports Academy for his contributions in the field of health enhancement sciences. 

 

In addition to his practice of facial plastic surgery and founder of the McCollough Institute for Appearance and Health in Gulf Shores, Alabama, he holds an academic appointment with the USSA as “Chairman of the Department of Human Aesthetics and Clinical Rejuvenology™.” 

 

Dr. McCollough is the co-author of several major textbooks on facial and nasal plastic surgery.  He is “board certified” by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology. (Representing the specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery)

 

Dr. McCollough served as president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, president of the American Association of Cosmetic Surgeons, and president of the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 

 

He has traveled extensively throughout the world to teach seminars and techniques of head and neck plastic surgery to surgeons around the globe.  Thousands of surgeons have visited his clinic for professional instruction.

 

During his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UAB, Dr. McCollough’s interests extended beyond the head and neck. His interests took him into general and emergency medicine.

 

Dr. McCollough became the first Medical Director of a Nursing Home in the State of Alabama when he created the position of Medical Director of the Estes Nursing Homes and served in that capacity, while caring for more than 500 geriatric patients.  During that time, he witnessed the physical, psychological, and social results of the aging process and set out to develop ways to combat the aging process and the numerous chronic conditions associated with it.

 

Alabama’s Senior Citizens Hall of Fame recognized his contributions to the art and science of treating and preventing age-related diseases by inducting Dr. McCollough into its Hall of Fame.

 

 After 25 successful years in Birmingham, one of The Best Doctors in America®, Nasal and Facial Plastic Surgeon, E. Gaylon McCollough, M.D., F.A.C.S. and the internationally acclaimed McCollough Plastic Surgery Clinic moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama, where he founded the McCollough Institute For Appearance and Health, an interdisciplinary professional complex dedicated to helping people from all walks of life look, feel, and perform better…longer.

 

In 2003, Dr. McCollough, also received the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery’s “Distinguished Service Award” for his efforts in founding the ABFPRS, serving as the Board’s first president, and his contributions to graduate medical education. .

 

The McCollough Institute for Appearance and Health was honored with the “2002 Business of the Year Award,” chosen by the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Chamber of Commerce

 

The July 2003 issue of the international publication, Cosmetic Surgery Times, featured a “physician’s profile” reviewing the personal and professional life of E. Gaylon McCollough MD FACS.  The Times chose to entitle the article: “The Making of a Renaissance Man.”

 

The “Alabama Health-Education Initiative,” a partnership between the Alabama Education Association’s PEEHIP program and the McCollough Institute, was conceived and is directed by Dr. McCollough.  The AHEI is designed to identify potential and real health issues among AEA’s members and to help them make lifestyle decisions designed to bring about better health at more affordable costs.
